The energy transition pioneer and entrepreneur Matthias Willenbacher is supporting the new construction project with a donation of 50,000 euros.

Matthias Willenbacher erected his first wind turbine back in 1996 and subsequently founded the company JUWI, which grew into a leading project developer and service provider for renewable energies in Germany. The passionate entrepreneur also set up other companies to promote a variety of sustainability issues, including clean energy generation. For example, wiwi consult, also a project developer and service provider for renewable energies, is currently implementing around 200 megawatts of wind and solar energy projects. The company works closely with WIWIN, which provides financing for sustainable ventures. WITURA also works on innovative solutions for regenerative construction and renovation. Willenbacher has also founded start-ups that focus on organic farming and a regional supply of healthy food. Last but not least, Matthias Willenbacher is the founder of the foundation “100 prozent erneuerbar stiftung“, which has set itself the task of shaping the energy transition in such a way that it meets people’s needs.

Existing and new institute buildings from satellite images with the construction phases: Construction phase 0 from March 2024 and construction phase 1 from early 2025

The first milestone is just around the corner: now that planning permission has been granted, the floor slab of the new building will soon be poured.

We are pursuing the same goal at the ISC Konstanz and have been helping to strengthen the solar industry in Germany for almost 20 years with our application-oriented research in the field of solar and energy systems. After many years of intensive use, the research center is now in need of renovation, which is why we are planning an extension on the neighboring property so that ongoing operations can continue seamlessly. The ISC will also be able to drive forward topics such as technology transfer, education and training as well as development and educational cooperation with better resources in the new research center. This will be made possible by a strong community of supporters consisting of donors and sponsoring institutions who are also concerned about the livelihood of future generations.
Matthias Willenbacher supports the ISC project out of conviction: “With my contribution, I want to give solar research in Germany a further boost and strengthen its importance for the global expansion of solar energy use.” The first milestone is just around the corner: now that planning permission has been granted, the floor slab of the new building will soon be poured.
Anyone who would like to see the unique project and the work of the institute for themselves will have the opportunity to do so on May 18 – at the ISC Konstanz open day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Rudolf-Diesel-Straße 15).
