For the urgently needed extension of our research center, we have purchased the neighboring property. The construction project is to be financed by donations, among other things. Goal: Mastering the energy transition together

On 21.6.2023, the purchase was notarized and after the city of Constance also waived its right of first refusal, the new approx. 3,500 sqm property now belongs to us. “We have thus reached an important first milestone for our extension building,” explains Rudolf Harney, Head of Fundraising at ISC Konstanz. “We are planning for a project duration of two years and have already had initial success in raising donations.”

After more than 15 years of intensive use, the research center is in urgent need of renovation. With the extension building on the neighboring property, uninterrupted operation is possible during the relocation and renovation of the existing building. The financing plan for the overall project provides for a budget of 19 million euros. A large part of this is to be secured via the federal and state governments as well as loans. We intend to raise our own contribution of 4 million euros through a fundraising campaign. The ISC is also counting on donations of machinery from industry.

Rudolf Harney: “We expect an increased demand for photovoltaic solutions in the coming years. With our expansion and new building, we are creating the place where we can work unhindered on a sunny future. After all, the tasks ahead are urgent: If we as a society want to master the energy transition, we need highly efficient solar cells that we can produce cost-effectively and independently here in Germany – and as quickly as possible.”
