What is SLAK?

With the help of solar energy, we want to fight poverty in Cameroon. By installing solar home systems, we aim at improving the living conditions in the villages, and the infrastructure in schools and hospitals.

For more information about the project, please refer to the official SLAK-Website at www.slak-isc.de.
Our SLAK-newsletter is available for download here.

Why solar electricity?

The families in our partnership region in Cameroon are very poor. The monthly costs for their kerosene or petroleum can sum up to 5 Euro which is often more than the villagers can afford. Not only that it´s expensive: its the major cause for eye and respiratory system diseases. The open light sources are equalli frequent causes for forest fires which endanger the ecosystem on the whole.

    • Since the villages have no access to the electricity grid, the installation of solar home systems is the more economic and effective way to produce electricity
    • The insolation in Cameroon is six times higher as in Europe and thus a solar module is capable to meet the needs of a
    • The poor villagers can stay independent form official electricity or kerosene providers
    • Because of the high insolation rate, ist possible to use other electric devices beside the illumination
    • The villagers for their part pay each month 2 Euro for the community fund wich will cover maintenance fees
    • Adults may use the evening hours for productive work to increase their income
    • The children can learn even after the dark (6 pm) which enhances their chances in the future
    • One solar module has an approximate lifespan of 30 years ? enough time to ensure the economic vitality for a whole generation through ecological approach!

Our project

After conducting the necessary research, we normally store the used solar cells in our archive. Our idea is to collect the donations to produce the modules from these cells, and to set them up in a village in Cameroon, so that the kids can learn in the evenings. The project SLAK aims at setting up solar home systems with a total power of about 5kW to power a village of about 30 houses by solar electricity.

Your donation

Ever since then the first units were installed in the Botbadjang village  we have received more than 200 request from villages, schools and hospitals to eqip them with stable electricity. So far, 60 requests were evaluated as such where help is especially needed. Therefore we are grateful for your further financial support of the project. In addition, we are planning follow-up projects in the neighbourhood of the village Botjadang and we are searching for the spornsors.

We are registered as a non-profit organisation and your donation will be of course tax-deductible. We will gladly send you on request a donation receipt for the amounts exceeding 200 EUR.

Our Partners and Sponsors:

We are very grateful to our partners and sponsors, whose financial support made the first project a reality. For the complete list of the benefactors to the project please refer to the SLAK-Website.
